A 40-foot sei whale has washed ashore on a New York City beach, contributing to a spate of marine mammal deaths along the East Coast. The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society (AMSEAS) confirmed the same whale, estimated to be roughly 40 feet. AMSEAS is working with local authorities to secure and monitor the animal, and is coordinating a necropsy examination scheduled for Friday, March 27. The group highlighted that whales, dolphins and porpoises are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which prevents them from being touched, fed or harmed. In the meantime, a humpback whale is stranded in shallow waters along Germany's Baltic Sea, where it may have wandered into the Baltic Sea.
