The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is deploying personnel to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport in Baltimore due to hours-long security waits due to a partial government shutdown. The move comes as Transportation Security Administration officers have gone over a month without paychecks. The Maryland Aviation Administration stated that primary aviation security functions, including passenger and baggage screening responsibilities, will remain with trained, skilled TSA personnel. The airport had advised travelers to arrive four hours early due to unexpected wait times Saturday morning and improved on Sunday. However, travel experts and labor leaders warned that security lines at some U.s. airports could not be resolved overnight and could linger into next week or longer as TSA workers wait for their back pay.
