WHO Health Emergencies EPI-WIN webinar: artificial intelligence (AI) supported listening to communities for cholera
Published on May 5, 2026.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has launched a webinar discussing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support listening to communities for cholera, a major global public health threat and a marker of inequity where access to safe water, sanitation and healthcare is limited. From January to December 2025, there were 614,828 cholestation cases and 7,598 deaths reported from 33 countries across five WHO regions, with a further 16,912 new cases and 182 deaths in January 2026. The use of AI to assist with accurate and timely responses to the issue is crucial as the global risk continues to grow. The conference will also discuss the work of the Africa Infodemic Response Alliance (AIRA).
