A coalition of about 20 businesses and residents has formed to support the 128-acre Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park in South Chicago, despite opposition from some Chicagoans. The coalition, which includes fourth-generation residents, small businesses, and local school officials, aims to ensure the authentic voice of Southeast Chicago residents are included in the project and the entire 400-acre Quantum Shore development. The park is part of the Quantum Shore project, which will also include a 52-bed Advocate Health Care hospital. The group believes the quantum park is a way to combat population loss and disinvestment in the area. The campus will provide new jobs in quantum computing and related scientific fields, and increase foot traffic for existing and new small businesses.
