Four scientists from Northern Arizona University, Jamie Molaro, Hanna Sizemore and Cathy Weitz, are part of the team that will assist NASA's Artemis program, which plans to land human crews on the Moon in 2028. They will assist with planning for the mission, collecting samples and photographing the Moon's surface, and advising astronauts in real-time while they explore. The landing site is expected to be at the Moon’s unexplored south pole, a different type of terrain from the more equatorial areas visited by the Apollo astronauts. This isn't the first time Arizona scientists have assisted in a Moon landing, with about three dozen assisting on the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.
