Hollywood actor Ben McKenzie has criticised Bitcoin (BTC) on The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart, calling it a "culture of hype, misinformation, and speculation" that fuels its rise. McKenzie argues that the crypto industry is less about innovation than about systematic wealth transfer fuelled by hype, confusion, and weak oversight. He also co-authored a book with journalist Jacob Silverman, Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud (2023), and directed a documentary, 'Everyone Is Lying to You for Money' (2025). McKenzie claims that the industry is built in a way that early adopters and insiders gain early access to the market, leading to disproportionate losses among less experienced participants. He argues that while crypto prices are not anchored to fundamentals, they are driven by belief, narrative, and momentum.
