A work furlough inmate, Nihipali Sr., is accused of killing his girlfriend and stabbing his estranged wife on March 5. The 53-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her boyfriend, who was wearing an ankle monitor at the time, was also found to have a boyfriend in the program. Police say that Niipali Sr. then drove to the Kapolei residence where he stabbed his wife, also a 53 year old woman. He was apprehended outside of the home armed with a knife after failing to drop the knife despite multiple commands. Julia Kaneshiro, deputy prosecuting attorney for the case, argued that he is a flight risk and should remain held without bail. Judge Tracy Fukui ruled that the suspect's bail status may be raised again in circuit court.
