Payment transaction volumes among artificial intelligence agents are more than 90% lower than initial reports, according to Andreessen Horowitz partner Noah Levine. Despite this, crypto giants are investing billions into building the infrastructure around it. Most of the AI payment activity is around developer tools, such as Firecrawl, Browserbase, and Freepik, which all accept cards. Levine said that while humans remain involved in these transactions, interactions occur through agentic platforms like Claude Code and OpenClaw personal AI assistant. Meanwhile, Coinbase announced its x402 Facilitator is adding support for the Ethereum layer-2 network Polygon, allowing developers to accept payments of the stablecoin USDC (USDC) on Polygon.
