President Donald Trump's speech from the White House was largely a rehash of what he has been saying about the Iran war, but left key questions unanswered. Despite efforts to reassure Americans of the merits of the war, polls suggest a majority of voters disapprove of the military operation he launched on 28 February. The president also made repeated threats against Iran, including a pledge to bomb the country "back to the stone age". However, there are many unanswered questions about where the war is heading or potential exit ramps for the US. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest oil shipping channels, is a central issue in this conflict but the president seems to have a conflicting view on this issue. There are also questions about the 15-point peace plan that the US was urging Iran to accept just days ago, which was not mentioned by Trump on Wednesday night.
