A sightseeing helicopter crashed near a beach off the coast of Kauai, killing three people and injuring two others. The crash was part of a series of fatal crashes that have plagued the industry for decades. The helicopter was carrying one pilot and four passengers when it crashed off Kalalau Beach, a remote beach accessible only by hiking or boat. At least 16 people have died in Hawaii in the past seven years, including two crashes in 2019. The Federal Aviation Administration will set up a new process for air tour operators in Hawaii to fly at lower altitudes in 2023, including recommendations for pilot training and qualifications. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
