The cost of Alzheimer's care is expected to rise to over $400 billion in 2026, according to a national report from the Alzheimer's Association. The cost of a private room in a nursing home in Toledo is estimated at $145,000 annually, or nearly $400 daily. Many families with this situation are on a limited income, making it harder to pay for these rooms. The American Council on Aging also highlighted the need for more outside-of-the-home care. Ken Oehlers, wife of one of the victims, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2020. The Alzheimer's association supports MemoryLane Care Services, which subsidizes the cost of these services for both patients and their caregivers.
