Waymo’s skyrocketing ridership in one chart

Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has increased its robotaxi service to 500,000 weekly rides across 10 U.S. cities, according to a post on X. The company has expanded beyond its initial markets of Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles to Austin, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando within the past year. The average weekly paid robotaxis trips have grown tenfold, from 50,000 per week in May 2024 to 500k per week today. This growth has led to increased scrutiny from the public and regulators, including the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Despite these challenges, Waymo's lead in robotaxic rides continues to grow.
