Japan has rejected a U.S. intelligence assessment that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan were a significant shift for a sitting Japanese prime minister. The assessment came as Takaich arrived in the US for a summit with President Donald Trump, with the focus on the Iranian conflict expected to dominate the meeting. The intelligence community assessed that Takaic's characterization of a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan as a "survival threatening situation" for Japan could open the door for Japan to intervene under its 2015 reinterpretation of its Constitution.
