The Beersheba District Court has ordered the release of four defendants in the wartime Gaza smuggling case, including Bezalel Zini, brother of Shin Bet chief David Zini. The ruling undermines the prosecution's most serious security theory while avoiding collapsing the case. Judge Alon Gabizon stated that while a detention ground still exists in principle, the danger can be neutralized through full house arrest, supervision, and additional restrictions. He also noted that Zini's clean criminal record, extensive reserve service, and his lengthy criminal record suggest that the risk of repeat conduct has decreased. The state requested a stay of execution and has now had to persuade an appellate court to dismiss the court's decision.
