Record producer Zev Feldman has curated four never-before-heard tapes by late Jazz Showcase founder Joe Segal, just in time for his 100th birthday. The tapes, which were discovered by Feldman in 2012, document performances by saxophonist Joe Henderson, pianist Ahmad Jamal, multi-instrumentalist Yusef Lateef, drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath and bassist Bob Cunningham. Segal had also captured years of jazz Showcase performances from the venue’s soundboard, with musicians’ consent. The albums were released on vinyl on Record Store Day and a CD and digital release on April 24.
