Senior catcher Kayden Corneils, a recruit from Waubonsee, has been a standout player for Sandwich, stepping into her role as the team leader. She performed well in a tough match against Waubosee, where she went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single and threw out two baserunners. Despite six errors, she managed to prevent further errors and secure a 14-5 nonconference win for the host Indians. Corneil has been playing softball since grade school and credits her success to taking lessons from Kaneland coach Mike Kuefler. She plans to pursue a nursing degree at Waubsonsee and is unsure if she will continue playing beyond junior college.
