Clark County Commissioner April Becker criticized the county's board for awarding contracts to companies specializing in election-related services without any public discussion. She accused the registrar of voters and city officials of ignoring rules that apply to all departments. One contract, originally signed in 2015, had built-in amendments allowing for more money for licensing fees and raising the contract price even higher. The contract had already cost $320,000 and had been approved in 2025, with regular votes conducted without public discussion and no public bidding. Registrar of Voters Lorena Portillo defended the county’s election department, stating that some contracts are exempt from public bidding and that certain exemptions, like professional services or a company being the only one of its kind, can allow the election department to withhold a contract from public biddings.
