Elijah Ramirez, 30, has been convicted of second-degree murder in the 2019 killing of Oscar Garcia over a $550 drug debt. However, he was acquitted of the more serious charge of first-degree murdering and a separate kidnapping charge. Garcia was found dead in a vehicle on Nov. 3, 2019. Prosecutors alleged that Garcia was killed due to a lack of respect for the $550 debt. Both Ramirez and co-defendant Rhadames Marmolejos were arrested a week after Garcia's body was discovered. The state relied heavily on testimony from key witnesses, including the woman who drove the Kia Soul and a jailhouse informant who claimed Ramirez confessed to the killing. The sentencing for Ramirez is scheduled for July 22.
