Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has defended his administration against a citizen-led ballot initiative that would ban large data centers, arguing that the legislature is the proper venue for policy decisions. The group of rural Ohioans has gathered about 1,800 signatures in eight days to start the ballot process. DeWane, who has provided billions of dollars in tax incentives to lure data centers to Ohio, argues that the state legislature can make such decisions. A proposed constitutional amendment would require roughly 413,000 signatures by July to place the measure on the November ballot. The Ohio Supreme Court recently overturned a decades-long ban on judges endorsing political candidates, which was criticized by Attorney General Dave Yost and dissenting Justice Pat Fischer. The U.S. Senate Republicans’ main super PAC plans to spend more money on Jon Husted re-elected than any other race.
