Actor Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, known as Vijay or "Thalapathy" (Commander), has claimed to form the government of Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, won 108 seats in the Assembly election count, making it the single largest party in the state. This victory marks the most significant electoral debut in Tamil Nadu's modern history. The victory marks Vijay's transition into politics after a 59-year dominance in the film industry. His party, which fell 10 seats short of the 118 required for an outright majority in the 234-member Assembly, could potentially benefit from support from smaller parties. The election turnout of 85.1% was the highest ever for a Tamil Nadu assembly election.
