The Donald Trump administration's "dual state" of mass deportation, which includes approximately 60,000 people currently being held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facilities, is facing legal challenges after Operation Metro Surge, which resulted in over 3,700 arrests and the shooting deaths of two protesters. The administration's stated goal is to remove 3,000 individuals a day from the country, with a target of over one million deportations annually. The deportation process is so fast that detainees cannot obtain meaningful legal representation, a violation of their constitutional, civil and human rights. Immigrants are fighting back by filing lawsuits against the federal government, arguing that the overcrowded and unsanitary detention facilities are inhumane. However, federal judges have declared this "indiscriminate mass detention" illegal. The Trump administration has responded by saying its reinterpretation of the law is legal because the time a person is in the country is irrelevant.
