The NCAA has approved the approval of a coach’s challenge in men’s and women’'s basketball, allowing coaches to challenge select calls made by referees for the first time in the NCAA Tournament. The women's game allows for reviews of possession plays and potential foul upgrades, while the men's allows for review of these plays. An incorrect challenge in women's basketball would result in the loss of a timeout, but in men's game, teams must have a timeout to request a challenge. A successful challenge would give the coaching staff one additional challenge for the rest of the game. Louisville uses a three-prong test with coach Jeff Walz to decide when to challenge a challenge, which is often followed by a timer to review the play.
