Trump’s new construction project is ‘personal’ — and may be record-breaking

The Commission of Fine Arts, a group of members appointed by the president, has approved early designs for a 250-foot tall arch that could be the world's tallest. The project, which would feature a line from the Pledge of Allegiance, a 60-foot-tall Lady Liberty, and two 24-foot golden eagles at the very top, has faced resistance from Democrats and Vietnam War veterans who argue it will hinder their views of Arlington National Cemetery. The commission has asked its architect, Nicolas Charbonneau, to make revisions to some details in the designs and will hold another meeting for consideration. The cost of the project has not been disclosed.
