Dr. J Mack Slaughter, an ER doctor based in Dallas, Texas, has defended the show "The Pitt" season 2, stating that it is not a rare occurrence of the electronic medical record going down, but a normal occurrence. The most recent season of the HBO medical drama, which depicted a cyber attack on other hospitals in the area, shut down electronic medical records and other systems to prevent cyber attacks, forcing doctors to manually input medical charts by hand and send orders to other departments. Dr. Slaughter, who oversees the entire emergency department, said that his job is much easier when he has access to electronic charts and safety measures such as allergy checks, when we write prescriptions, and if there's any obvious patient interactions with other meds, it's just not possible. He also highlighted the need to maintain the same level of efficiency and safety as it is in the real world.
