Highland, Artesia power into 4A semis with statement wins

Highland and Artesia have advanced to the semifinals of Class 4A in New Mexico's 4A championship. The top-seeded Hornets defeated Portales 95-69, and will now face fifth-seed Taos, which defeated Del Norte 62-49. Defending state champion No. 2 Artesie advanced with a 80-19 victory over No. 7 Gallup. Meanwhile, No. 3 Hope Christian improved to 4-0 against sixth-seeding Albuquerque Academy with a 70-47 victory. The winning games were played at the Pit, with Braylon Vega scoring 40 points and hitting nine of 11 from 3-point range.
