The animated series "Invader Zim" debuted on Nickelodeon in 2001, 25 years after the 9/11 attacks. The show, which combines science fiction with morbid humour and possibilities, was seen as part of its downfall due to its eccentricity compared to "SpongeBob SquarePants" and its dark and destructive nature. Despite its popularity, the show failed to find a niche audience and was terminated in 2002 before all its second season's episodes had aired. Despite the show's eccentricity, it was never designed to be a traditional kids' show.
