On March 19, Grey's Anatomy fans lost their beloved character, Katie Rogers (Samantha Marie Ware), who died offscreen following her cancer diagnosis. Prior to her death, Katie moved in with Lucas (Niko Terho) and Simone (Alexis Floyd) to receive hospice care and comfort during her final stages of her stage two gastric cancer diagnosis, but by the time Lucas returned home from the hospital, Katie had already passed away. The death of Dr. Monica Beltran was confirmed on Oct. 9 after a massive explosion at the end of season 21. Shonda Rhimes recently shared her reasons for the decision to kill some of the show's most beloved characters, including Derek Shepard (Patrick Dempsey) and George O’Malley (T.R. Knight).
