Donald Trump Says He Can’t Focus on Child Care Costs: 'We're Fighting Wars. We Can't Take Care of Daycare’

President Donald Trump said that the United States can't afford daycare in part due to the focus of war and other issues, while addressing a White House Easter luncheon. Speaking to Christian religious leaders and Cabinet members, he said that while the country is fighting wars, it is more of a priority than funding daycare. The comments were widely criticized by Democratic lawmakers, including California Rep. Ro Khanna and Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, who suggested that the billions wasted in Iran could pay for $10 day childcare for every American family with childcare workers paid $25 an hour. In response to criticism, the White House defended the decision to launch the Iran war alongside Israel and highlighted progress the U.S. has made in killing Iranian leaders and damaging their military capabilities. The war against Iran is currently unpopular with a majority of Americans disapproving of the war, and a majority believe in the war.
