Spirit Airlines, a bankrupt discount carrier, ceased operations on Saturday due to financial difficulties and a failed government bailout plan. The closure was caused by the doubling in jet fuel prices during the Iran war and will cost thousands of jobs. The airline was the second most used airline at Detroit Metro Airport in 2025, behind Delta. The owner of the Dabls MBAD African Bead Museum is suing the City of Detroit for destroying a building containing dozens of murals before he could preserve them.
