FCC says ban on foreign-made routers includes portable Wi-Fi hotspots

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has clarified that its ban on foreign-made consumer routers also affects portable Wi-Fi devices. This means companies making these devices must obtain an exemption from the government to import and sell any new ones approved by the FCC. Devices previously approved for sale in the US can continue to be imported and sold without needing a special exemption. The ban does not cover “mobile phones with hotspot features.
