The judgment was awarded under Illinois' Civil Liability for Doxing Act, which defines "doxing" as publishing another person's personal information without consent. The case arose after a fake image of Ellen Moriarty was circulated on social media following an attempted assassination in 2024. The verdict is believed to be among the first in Illinois to reach a trial verdict under the act. Giamanco represented Moriarty, who also serves as the Homer Township Democratic Organization treasurer. The lawsuit was first filed in 2024 and went to a bench trial.
