A 24-year-old woman, Jean East Taylor, is facing charges of DUI manslaughter for allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 in Collier County, Florida, causing a head-on collision that resulted in the death of a 96-year old man. The Florida Highway Patrol found that Taylor was intoxicated and had posted videos and photos on Instagram hours prior to the accident. The incident shut down a major interstate for nearly eight hours and resulted in a significant disruption to commuters. The charges are supported by Florida statutes, which define DUI manslaughter as a second-degree felony. To secure a conviction, the state must prove three counts including that Taylor's driving was under the influence of alcohol and that her operation of the vehicle resulted in death.
