Actress Claudine Longet shot and killed her boyfriend, Olympian Vladimir “Spider” Sabich, on March 21, 1976. Longet claimed that the gun accidentally discharged while Sabich was teaching her how to use it. Despite initially being charged with reckless manslaughter, a series of mistakes limited the evidence in court and she was convicted of a lesser charge. The couple's relationship was reportedly strained prior to Sabich's death. Sabich died at 31 years old at the time of his death.
