The Trump administration is planning ambitious goals to use AI and emerging tech to accelerate scientific discovery. The Genesis Mission, unveiled last year, aims to use quantum computers, commercially viable fusion power plants, and a trained workforce of 100,000 scientists and engineers within the next decade. The goal is to double the productivity and impact of science R&D spending by building on AI's success with language and code and advancing its capabilities in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and more. The initiative is led by the Energy Department (ED) and its national labs, with the hope of delivering a supercomputer by the end of 2026 that could be used as a blueprint for other agencies.
