What’s Different at SXSW Music 2026: Festival Chiefs on Having a New Base Beyond the Convention Center, Earlier Set Times, Global Genre Shifts and Celebrating a 40th Anniversary

SXSW Music 2026, marking the 40th anniversary of the South by Southwest Music Festival, will take place from March 12-16, with all of the different sub-festivals running concurrently for the first time in the festival's four-decade history. The festival's HQ for daytime events has moved from the recently demolished convention center to a hotel adjacent to much of the nightlife. The event's top executives, Brian Hobbs and Dev Sherlock, discuss what changes are expected to be made at the festival, which also includes genre shifts in the nightly programming and increased business collaboration and collaboration. They also discuss the transition from 10 days to seven days for the length of all of SXSW, which they believe expands the overall length of the event.
