Judge temporarily halts Trump demand for race-based admissions data from universities

A U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor has temporarily halted efforts by the Trump administration to obtain race-based admissions data from universities. The 17 states challenging the administration's new reporting requirements argue they are costly and burdensome to universities. California Attorney General Rob Bonta, one of the lead states in the lawsuit, accused the administration of seeking unprecedented amounts of data under the guise of enforcing civil rights law. The deadline for the survey has been extended to March 25.
