Barret Avenue businesses worry about losing parking in redesign proposal

Businesses along Barret Avenue are worried about losing parking due to a proposed plan to add bike lanes along the street. The proposal, which will not be included in the current plan, could remove about 31 street parking spots. The city is considering changes that would either keep permanent parking on both sides of the street or add a bike lane. Business owners believe this could threaten customer access and force them to close their businesses. Ben Jones, owner of Better Days Records, moved his store from Bardstown Road to Barret Ave eight years ago to provide better parking for his customers. The proposed repaving and restriping project has been met with criticism from the cycling community online. However, some business leaders believe it could benefit both parties.
