The 11,500-year-old life-size statue, Urfa Man, was discovered accidentally during construction work in the Balıklıgöl district of Şanlıurfa in 1993. The statue was carved out of limestone and stands 5 feet, 11 inches tall and features a partially broken nose, deep-set eye sockets, and a necklace around his neck. It is believed to have been made over 11,000 years ago, when people in what is now southern Turkey began crafting life-sized human statues. It was found in the area known for its monumental communal structures and numerous statues of men holding their phalluses at nearby sites. However, the statue's absence of a mouth may have been intentional, suggesting it was intended to depict a communicator from a supernatural world of the dead to the living in a realistically human shape.
