Thune lays out next steps after Trump's move to restore TSA pay

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has urged Republican senators to work together to ensure the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including ICE and Border Patrol, is funded in a sustainable manner. This follows President Trump's attempt to end the government shutdown for TSA workers by ordering his Homeland Security secretary to immediately pay their TSA agents. Thune hopes to fund the rest of DHS through the traditional appropriations process, which would allow him to focus his reconciliation efforts on ICE and the Border Patrol. However, Democrats have been reluctant to support law enforcement reforms in exchange for funding the Department.
