OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has admitted to a "rushed" deal with the U.S. Department of Defense, stating that the company "shouldn't have rushed" its announcement of the deal. This comes after it was announced that OpenAI would amend the contract to include new language that the AI system would not be intentionally used for domestic surveillance of US persons and nationals. Altman also stated that the Defense Department had confirmed that Open AI's tools would not necessarily be used by intelligence agencies like the NSA. The agreement comes after a public dispute between Anthropic and Washington over safeguards for its Claude AI systems.
