Uber has added Hyundai-owned Motional's self-driving version of the Ioniq 5 to its robotaxi network in Las Vegas. The vehicles will be available for rides to and from five areas around the city, with a safety monitor in the car. The launch comes two years after Motional, which was previously a joint venture between Hyundai and Aptiv, experienced financial difficulties and faced layoffs of about 40% of its workforce. The companies plan to expand the operating area in the future. They expect to run a fully driverless service in Las Las Vegas by the end of this year.
