Judge says White House can't 'strong-arm' Apple into blocking ICE trackers

A judge has ruled that the Trump administration should not have coerced Apple and Google into removing apps that track the activity of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). A preliminary injunction has been awarded to the creators of ICE Sightings and Eyes Up, stating they are likely to succeed in their claim that the government suppressed protected speech under the First Amendment. The issue arose when an app called ICEBlock was condemned by the White House and later removed from Apple's App Store. The House Judiciary Committee launched an investigation into whether the DOJ applied unlawful pressure to remove these apps. An injunction has now been granted pending a full hearing.
