The 49ers have signed veteran Khalil Herbert as their backup running backs are struggling with injuries. Jordan James, Isaac Guerendo, Patrick Taylor Jr., Sincere McCormick, and Kaelon Black are all out of practice due to injuries. Ricky Pearsall is expected to miss the season due to a PCL that never healed on its own. The 49ers' first four draft picks, De'Zhaun Stribling, Romello Height, Kaelan Black and Gracen Halton, are also injured. The team's injury problem is being blamed on a massive electrical substation near their practice field, which has been there since 1987 and grew significantly in 2013 and 2014 to accommodate Levi's Stadium. Former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh suggested the need for training camp to be moved away from the substation.
