The average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage rose again last week, contributing to increased interest in prospective homebuyers and refinancing. The increase in interest led to decreased applications for home ownership. The Mortgage Bankers Association reported that the average rate rose to 6.57 percent, up 14 basis points from the previous week.
