Japan's Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, plans to release an additional 20 days' worth of oil reserves from May to ensure stable domestic supply. This comes as conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt global supply. The country is dependent on 95% of its oil supply. As of April 6, Japan had enough oil for 230 days in its reserves, including 143 days in the public stockpile. The government has asked suppliers to sell fuel directly to sectors such as healthcare, transportation, and agriculture.
