The Lakeville City Council has approved the construction of Al-Hadi Masjid, a permanent place of worship in the city of nearly 80,000 residents. The Al Hadi Association, an independent nonprofit Islamic organization, was given the green light by the council to build a mosque at 17732 Junelle Path in Lakeville, which is zoned as a single family residential district. The nearly 3,700-square-foot facility will serve the Muslim community through daily prayers, Islamic education, seasonal events and various programs. The mosque is expected to be operational in 10 to 12 months and is funded entirely through community donations. However, some speakers expressed concerns about the mosque's location and proximity to residential and commercial spaces.
