Alaskans reported a record $40 million in losses to cybercrime in 2025, according to a report by the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center. The report indicates that online scams are becoming more sophisticated and costly. Nearly half of the money lost in Alaska was from cryptocurrency, a sign of how digital assets have become a preferred tool for fraudsters. The costliest scams in the state were investment fraud, confidence or romance scams, and business email compromise. Older Alaskans experienced the heaviest financial burden, with residents 60 and older reporting the highest losses. The FBI has urged people and businesses to report cybercrime quickly through IC3.
