Contra Costa County Assessor Gus Kramer, known for his controversial tenure as "Bad Boy Assessor," has decided not to run for reelection after three decades in office. His tenure was marked by investigations, lawsuits, and political controversy. Three contenders are vying to replace him: Nick Spinner, a senior systems engineer for the county and member of the Crockett Community Services District Board of Directors, Kismat Kathrani, a tech entrepreneur who founded Info Way Solutions, and Assistant County Assessors Vince Robb. Despite these controversies, Kramer has consistently denied allegations of malicious or false. The California Fair Political Practices Commission fined Kramer $5,500 in 2019 for improperly reporting more than $25,000 in campaign contributions and for reporting a $90,000 personal loan to his campaign committee that was never received during his 2014 reelection campaign. There are also questions about Kramer's land dealings under his leadership, which included overvaluing properties owned by people or companies he was feuding with.
