PWC Could Cut Expected School Budget By $31 Million: Report

The Prince William County Board of Supervisors has proposed budget changes that could significantly reduce the county schools' expected budget for next year by $31 million. The board also agreed to a real estate tax cut, which would reduce the tax rate from 90.6 cents to 85 cents per $100 in assessed value of a home, and break the longstanding revenue-sharing agreement with schools to keep proceeds from a proposed "data center tax" hike out of the general revenue fund. The proposed changes could result in a reduction in employee pay increases, reduced after-school programs, and potentially decreased services.
