Nebraska lawmakers have advanced a bill that protects doctors who recommend medical marijuana to their patients. The bill was introduced by Sen. John Cavanaugh of Omaha and aims to protect medical providers from prosecution for recommending medical cannabis. Cavanaugh argued that his bill does not give doctors blanket immunity and could lead to doctors in the state finally recommending treatment many Nebraskans need. There was pushback from some lawmakers, including Sen. Kathleen Kauth of Omaha, who wanted to restrict recommendations to only Nebraska doctors.
